Israel could eventually risk losing its existence as a state if the conflict in the Middle East continues to escalate, Russian Lieutenant General Apti Alaudinov has said.
He made the remarks in an interview with Russia’s state-run TASS news agency, according to Al Jazeera.
Alaudinov currently serves as deputy head of the Russian military’s Main Directorate for Military-Political Affairs and commander of the Akhmat special forces.
He said the ongoing conflict in the Middle East could intensify further, claiming that one of Israel’s main objectives is to expand the war as much as possible and draw the United States and the entire NATO alliance into the conflict.
“We need to understand that the war in the Middle East will escalate further,” he said. “I think Israel’s main goal is to expand the conflict as much as possible and involve the United States and the entire NATO alliance.”
The Russian general also warned that a prolonged conflict could make Israel overly confident in its military strength, with potentially devastating consequences.
“Ultimately, Israel will overestimate its own strength. As a result, it may no longer exist as a state,” Alaudinov said.
The report did not clarify whether his remarks represent the Russian government’s official position or his personal assessment.
