The Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) is observing its 48th founding anniversary today (September 1) with various programmes across the country.
The party was founded by then-President Ziaur Rahman on September 1, 1978, based on the ideology of Bangladeshi nationalism and a 19-point programme.
To mark the occasion, BNP has announced a five-day programme. BNP Chairman and Prime Minister Tarique Rahman is scheduled to pay tribute to party founder Ziaur Rahman and former prime minister Khaleda Zia by placing wreaths at their graves in Dhaka at 9am today.
Various BNP units have also arranged rallies, discussions, flag hoisting and other programmes to celebrate the anniversary.
