1 September 2026 09:00 Updated: 1 September 2026 09:00

Dhaka University (DU) authorities have temporarily suspended four teachers over separate allegations, including their alleged opposition to the July mass uprising and failure to meet prescribed academic qualifications for appointment.

The decision was taken at a meeting of the university’s highest policymaking body, the Syndicate, on Monday, August 31.

The suspended teachers are Professor M Wahiduzzaman Chan and Professor Muhammad Mahbubur Rahman Litu of the Institute of Education and Research, Professor Mashiur Rahman of the Department of Sociology, and Associate Professor Md Ziaur Rahman (Sayem Rana) of the Department of Music.

The university formed tribunals against the first three teachers over allegations concerning their roles during the July uprising and activities during the previous Awami League government.

Ziaur Rahman was suspended over allegations that he did not possess the academic qualifications specified in the recruitment circular when he was appointed.

A separate investigation committee has been formed to examine the allegation further.

The suspensions are temporary pending further investigation and proceedings.
