Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed has said an impartial investigation is underway against the local MP over the demolition of the Radda MCH-FP Centre in Mirpur, Dhaka.

He said no one would be spared regardless of political identity if involvement in the incident is established.

The minister made the remarks at a press conference after a meeting on law and order related to Durga Puja at the Home Ministry in the Secretariat on Wednesday.

Salahuddin said an impartial investigation into the Radda incident was underway and that a police officer had already been withdrawn, with departmental action initiated against him.

“Regardless of their political identity, everyone involved in the incident will be arrested and legal action will be taken,” he said.

Regarding the land-grabbing and gunfire incident in the ECB Chattar area of Mirpur, the minister said police reached the spot immediately after receiving a call through the national emergency helpline 999. Several people were arrested and evidence was seized.

He said the case was being handled through an impartial investigation and that complaints were initially verified before being formally recorded to prevent harassment and ensure proper application of the law.

Expressing displeasure over what he described as controversial statements, Salahuddin said it was inappropriate to blame the government or any political party without evidence or to make statements with ulterior motives.

He also rejected allegations of extortion in connection with the incident, saying no criminal or neighbouring landowner involved would be spared and that strict legal action would be taken soon.

On the overall law-and-order situation, the minister said the country’s situation should not be assessed based on one or two isolated incidents.

“Police are prepared to ensure public safety, and visible action is being taken against crimes within 24 hours,” he said.

He also described the clashes during Wednesday’s hawker eviction drive in Mirpur as the result of a lack of coordination between the magistrate and police.

On social and religious harmony, Salahuddin said he was satisfied with the situation, claiming that religious and social harmony in the country had reached a commendable level compared with previous years.
