Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer and Dhaka-15 MP Dr Shafiqur Rahman has called for legal action and strict punishment against those allegedly involved in the occupation, vandalism and looting of the Radda MCH-FP Centre in Mirpur.

He made the call in a Facebook post on Thursday (October 1), following the resignation of BNP reserved-seat lawmaker Ferdousi Ahmed Misti. The Jamaat chief said organisational action alone would not be sufficient and urged the authorities to ensure that those responsible face legal consequences.

He also called on the government to take responsibility for sustainably rebuilding the health centre, which was damaged and looted during the September 24 incident.

Misti submitted her resignation letter to National Parliament Speaker Hafiz Uddin Ahmed on Thursday afternoon after Prime Minister Tarique Rahman instructed her to step down. The prime minister’s office confirmed the instruction.

Misti’s name came under discussion following the attack, vandalism and looting at the Radda MCH-FP Centre in Mirpur-1 on September 24. Allegations of her involvement have surfaced, but she has denied any involvement in the incident. The alleged involvement of an MP was also under investigation, according to Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed.

Misti was also a joint convener of the Dhaka North City BNP committee, which was dissolved on Wednesday night amid a series of organisational actions within the BNP and its affiliated organisations.
