Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami has called an emergency press conference over alleged harassment of expatriate Bangladeshis at the airport and the case filed against and arrest of former MP and freedom fighter Major (retd) Akhtaruzzaman.
The press conference will be held at 5pm on Sunday at the party’s central office, according to an invitation sent to the media.
Central leaders of Jamaat are scheduled to speak at the event.
The invitation said the press conference was being organised to protest what the party described as harassment of expatriate Bangladeshis at the airport and the filing of a “false and conspiratorial case” against Akhtaruzzaman and his arrest.
Media outlets were requested to send one reporter and one photojournalist to cover the press conference.
The invitation was signed by Ehsanul Mahbub Zubayer, assistant secretary general of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami and secretary of its central publicity and media department.
