New Delhi is stepping up security ahead of the Cockroach Janta Party’s (CJP) planned protest on October 10, with around 23,000 personnel from the Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF) set to be deployed in the capital.

The Union Home Ministry has approved the deployment of 221 CAPF companies from October 8 to 12.

Additional Delhi Police personnel will also be deployed to maintain law and order and secure key government installations.

The CJP has called the protest at Jantar Mantar demanding the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar over issues related to the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls.

Authorities are planning multi-layered barricades and strict surveillance across Delhi, including CCTV and facial-recognition monitoring.

Neighbouring states, including Uttar Pradesh and Haryana, have also been asked to remain alert.

The scale of the deployment is larger than that during the CJP’s July protest and the farmers’ agitation, according to reports.
