BNP Acting Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi has described the threat to suspend remittance inflows to Bangladesh as “extremely anti-national and anti-humanitarian”.
He made the remarks as the chief guest at an award-giving ceremony, discussion and cultural programme on the life and contributions of Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman at the TSC auditorium of Dhaka University on Friday afternoon.
The event was jointly organised by Zia Smriti Pathagar and ‘Komal Kuri’ to honour the winners of an essay competition on Ziaur Rahman’s life and work.
Rizvi criticised the threat to halt remittance flows, arguing that such a move would run counter to the country’s national interests and humanitarian values.
Remittances sent by expatriate Bangladeshis are a major source of foreign currency for the country and provide essential financial support to millions of families.
The controversy has renewed concerns over the potential economic impact of using remittance flows as a tool of political pressure.
