Chandpur: Leaders and activists of the National Citizen Party (NCP), Jatiya Chhatra Shakti and Jatiya Juba Shakti were allegedly attacked by Bangladesh Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal activists inside Chandpur Sadar Model Police Station on Thursday evening.

Earlier in the day, around noon, Mehedi Hasan Tanim, central joint organising secretary of Jatiya Juba Shakti, was allegedly abducted from the Boro Station area of Chandpur and taken to an isolated place, where he was severely beaten. He reportedly sustained injuries to his face and legs.

According to the allegations, NCP activists went to the police station in the evening to file a case and seek justice over the attack on Tanim when Chhatra Dal activists allegedly launched another assault on them inside the police station.

The police reportedly left the station during the incident. The attackers also allegedly snatched mobile phones from the NCP activists.

Later, Mahbub Alam, convener of Chandpur district NCP, Niaz Morshed, an NCP leader, Sagar Hossain, convener of Chhatra Shakti, and Russell Mahmud, convener of Juba Shakti, were allegedly taken away from the police station.

Other activists accompanying them were also subjected to a sudden attack, according to the allegations.

The allegations could not be independently verified, and the versions of Chhatra Dal and the police were not immediately available.
