Ajinkya Shinde will lead the Cockroach Janata Party (CJP) until its chief Abhijit Deepak and two other leaders are released from detention, according to a pre-recorded video message released by Deepak.
Deepak recorded the video before arriving in Delhi, anticipating that he might be detained.
In the message, he asked party members to follow Shinde’s instructions during the absence of Deepak, Saurav Das and Ashutosh Rana.
The three leaders were detained by Delhi Police amid preparations for a CJP protest demanding the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar.
According to Indian media reports, Communist Party of India (Marxist) MP John Brittas and former Kerala chief minister Pinarayi Vijayan were also detained while heading to the protest.
