NEW DELHI, Oct 16: Delhi Police have detained Abhijit Dipke, founder of the Cockroach Janata Party (CJP), for the second time in a week ahead of a planned flag-hoisting programme in the Indian capital.

Dipke was detained on Friday shortly before the scheduled ‘Lehra Do Tiranga’ programme at Central Park in Connaught Place.

Police had earlier served him a notice prohibiting him from holding the event amid restrictions on public gatherings in the area.

The programme was called to protest the arrests of two CJP leaders, Ashutosh Ranka and Saurav Das, and to demand the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar over alleged irregularities in voter-list revisions.

Dipke was previously detained on October 10 after arriving in Delhi from Mumbai to join protests against the revision, which opposition groups allege has unfairly affected voters.

The Election Commission has denied favouring any political party.
