Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer and Leader of the Opposition Dr Shafiqur Rahman has alleged that a group of people is trying to turn madrasas into schools through indirect means.

He made the remarks at the 14th Hifzul Quran Award ceremony organised by Tanzimul Ummah Foundation at the China-Bangladesh Friendship Conference Centre in Dhaka on Monday (October 26).

The opposition leader said moral and religious education should be incorporated into the general education system alongside madrasa education.

He said this would help develop a generation that is not only academically talented but also grounded in moral values.

Shafiqur claimed that some people did not want such education, adding that a lack of moral instruction could lead to extortion and the plundering of wealth. He alleged that such behaviour was favoured by a particular group.
