FIFA has imposed heavy disciplinary sanctions on Argentina following several incidents during the 2026 FIFA World Cup, including a post-match brawl after the final against Spain.
Argentina midfielder Leandro Paredes was handed a 10-match suspension and fined $90,000 for his involvement in the confrontation.
Teammate Nahuel Molina received a seven-match ban and a $90,000 fine, while Thiago Almada was suspended for one match and fined $30,000.
Assistant coach Roberto Ayala was given a three-match suspension and a $30,000 fine. Spain’s Gavi was also banned for one match and fined $30,000.
The Argentine Football Association (AFA) was fined $321,000 for multiple violations, including discriminatory and racist behavior by supporters, security breaches and the display of a political banner concerning the Falkland Islands.
Argentina must also play its next two home matches at 50 percent stadium capacity. FIFA said $100,000 of the AFA’s fine must be invested in anti-discrimination initiatives.
The sanctions remain subject to appeal.
