Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo could play as teammates for the first time in their careers if plans for Carlos Tevez’s farewell match go ahead later this year.
Boca Juniors are planning a special event to honour Tevez, with club president Juan Roman Riquelme reportedly keen to organise the match at La Bombonera in December, five years after the Argentine star retired.
According to TyC Sports journalist Marcelo Palacios, around 60 prominent footballers are expected to be invited, including Messi and Ronaldo.
Tevez played alongside Messi for Argentina and shared the Manchester United dressing room with Ronaldo for three seasons. He has expressed his desire to see the two superstars play on the same team, saying, “We will put them together.”
Tevez also said he remains in contact with both players and joked about Ronaldo: “I will bring him myself.”
Messi currently plays for Inter Miami, while Ronaldo represents Al-Nassr. If both accept the invitation, their appearance together in December could create one of the most eagerly anticipated moments in football.
