Bangladesh bounced back from two consecutive defeats with a 4-2 victory over Kazakhstan in the Under-20 Junior Asia Cup hockey tournament in China on Tuesday, keeping their hopes of qualifying for the Junior World Cup alive.

The win in their third Pool B match also boosted the confidence of the Bangladesh youngsters after their defeats to hosts China and Malaysia in their opening two games.

Bangladesh started aggressively and kept Kazakhstan under pressure from the outset. Shimul Islam, Mehedi Hasan Abhi, Tayyab Ali and Munna Islam scored one goal each for Bangladesh.

Bangladesh had suffered a 3-2 defeat to China in their opening match before losing 4-2 to Malaysia in their second game. The victory over Kazakhstan marked their first win of the tournament.

The result keeps Bangladesh in contention for a place at the Junior World Cup, with the Junior Asia Cup serving as a qualification pathway for the Under-21 World Cup.
