Bangladesh opt for two pacers against Afghanistan

Bangladesh won the toss and elected to bat first against Afghanistan in their one-off Test at Sheikh Zayed Stadium in Abu Dhabi on Friday.

The match marks the first time Bangladesh have played a Test against Afghanistan at a neutral venue. Play is scheduled to begin at noon Bangladesh time.

Bangladesh have named two fast bowlers and three specialist spinners in their playing XI. Despite inconsistent performances with the bat, opener Shadman Islam has retained his place in the side.

Spinner Nayeem Hasan has also returned to the playing XI after being recalled to the squad. He will share the spin duties with experienced campaigners Taijul Islam and Mehidy Hasan Miraz.

Hasan Mahmud and Ebadot Hossain are the two pacers in the lineup.

Rahmat Shah is leading Afghanistan in a Test for the first time. The visitors have included three pace options and three spinners in their XI.

The two teams have faced each other twice in Test cricket, with both sides winning once.

Bangladesh XI: Shadman Islam, Tanzid Hasan Tamim, Mominul Haque, Najmul Hossain Shanto (captain), Mushfiqur Rahim, Litton Das (wicketkeeper), Mehidy Hasan Miraz, Nayeem Hasan, Hasan Mahmud, Taijul Islam and Ebadot Hossain.

Afghanistan XI: Abdul Malik, Sediqullah Atal, Rahmat Shah (captain), Hashmatullah Shahidi, Ikram Alikhil (wicketkeeper), Zia-ur-Rehman, Shahidullah Kamal, Yamin Ahmadzai, Qais Ahmad, Mohammad Saleem Safi and Ismat Alam.
