England booked their place in the FIFA World Cup semi-finals after overcoming a spirited Norway side in a dramatic quarter-final at Hard Rock Stadium in Miami, where the match was locked 1-1 after 90 minutes before being decided in extra time.

Norway struck first in the 36th minute through Andreas Schjelderup.

Winning possession from Harry Kane in midfield, the Norwegians launched a swift counterattack, and Schjelderup curled a superb effort past Jordan Pickford, with the ball clipping the post on its way into the net.

England restored parity deep into first-half stoppage time. Elliot Anderson’s incisive pass released Anthony Gordon, who squared the ball into the penalty area for Jude Bellingham.

The midfielder made no mistake, firing home with his first touch in the 45+2nd minute to send the teams into the break level at 1-1.

Although England enjoyed 57 percent possession, Norway created the clearer opportunities throughout the contest.

The Scandinavian side registered nine shots, five of them on target, compared with England’s seven attempts, only two of which tested the goalkeeper.

Erling Haaland came close to restoring Norway’s lead with a rebound effort, while Kristoffer Ajer’s powerful header struck the crossbar.

Norway also had a late goal from Torbjørn Heggem ruled out for offside, denying them what appeared to be the winner.

With neither side able to find a decisive goal in regulation time, the contest moved into extra time, where England eventually secured victory to end Norway’s impressive World Cup campaign and advance to the last four.
