Bangladesh suffered a dramatic batting collapse on the second day of the Mirpur Test against the West Indies on Thursday, losing their last seven wickets for just 59 runs to be bowled out for 272.

The hosts had ended the opening day in a strong position at 213-3, with Sadman Islam unbeaten on 99. However, despite completing his century early on the second morning, Bangladesh failed to build on their overnight total.

Sadman reached his third Test century in the first over of the day at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Mirpur. The opener brought up the milestone in his 32nd Test, ending a wait of 17 innings for a hundred. His previous Test century came against Zimbabwe in April 2025.

His stay at the crease ended shortly afterwards when debutant Joshua Bishop trapped him leg before wicket for 105. Sadman faced 234 balls and struck 11 fours. A review failed to overturn the decision, leaving Bangladesh at 221-4.

Towhid Hridoy, who had retired hurt on 42 on the opening day after suffering cramps, returned to the crease following Sadman’s dismissal. However, he was bowled by Bishop without adding to the total, leaving Bangladesh further under pressure at 221-5.

The wickets continued to tumble at regular intervals as the West Indies spinners exploited the situation. Litton Das tried to hold the innings together but received little support from the lower order.

Mehidy Hasan Miraz scored 15 at number seven, but none of the remaining batters managed to reach double figures.

Litton, who was unbeaten on 10 overnight, remained not out on 34 when the innings ended at 272.

West Indies spinner Jomel Warrican was the chief destroyer, claiming five wickets for 53 runs. Shamar Joseph and Joshua Bishop took two wickets each.
