Bad light halted play again on the second day of the Mirpur Test between Bangladesh and the West Indies on Thursday, forcing the umpires to call an early tea break after 27 overs of the visitors’ innings.

The West Indies were 89 for one when play stopped, with John Campbell unbeaten on 53 and Tagenarine Chanderpaul on 21. The visitors were trailing Bangladesh by 183 runs with nine wickets in hand.

Campbell has been the main obstacle for Bangladesh, batting aggressively in a one-day style. He has struck six fours and two sixes in his 65-ball unbeaten knock.

Bangladesh’s fielders, however, have given the West Indies opener two reprieves. Nayeem Hasan dropped a straightforward catch when Campbell was on five, while Shoriful Islam missed another chance when the batter had reached 22.

Campbell has made the most of those opportunities, putting pressure on the Bangladeshi bowlers.

Earlier, Bangladesh pacer Hasan Mahmud dismissed West Indies opener Brandon King before Campbell and Chanderpaul steadied the innings.

Chanderpaul has taken a more cautious approach, scoring 21 off 77 balls at the other end.

Earlier in the day, Bangladesh resumed their second innings at 213 for three but were eventually bowled out for 272, losing their last seven wickets for 59 runs.

Bad light also disrupted play twice on the opening day, reducing the scheduled 90 overs to 74.
