Bangladesh could soon celebrate another footballer featuring in the English Premier League after promising teenager Farhan Ali Wahid made his first-team appearance for Fulham in a pre-season friendly.
Hamza Choudhury remains the only Bangladeshi to have played in the Premier League, but 18-year-old Farhan took a significant step toward joining that exclusive list when he featured against Norwich City on Saturday. Fulham lost the match 2-0, but the young winger caught attention with an encouraging display.
Farhan entered the game in the 46th minute, replacing winger Kevin. He came close to scoring with a curling long-range effort that was brilliantly saved by Norwich goalkeeper Vladan Kovacevic. His performance strengthened hopes that he could earn more opportunities under Fulham head coach Álvaro Arbeloa before the new Premier League season begins. Fulham still have four pre-season friendlies remaining, giving the teenager further chances to impress.
Farhan joined Fulham’s academy from Chelsea at the age of 12 and has steadily progressed through the club’s youth ranks. Last season, he scored seven goals in 17 appearances for Fulham’s Under-18 side. He also marked his debut for the Under-21 team in the Premier League International Cup with a goal.
His rapid development was recognized in November 2025 when he was named the Premier League 2 Player of the Month. Known for his pace, dribbling ability and eye for goal, Farhan is widely regarded as one of Fulham’s brightest young prospects.
His rise has also generated excitement among Bangladeshi football fans, as he is keen to represent Bangladesh at the international level.
Bangladesh Football Federation (BFF) Vice President Fahad Karim confirmed that Farhan has officially expressed his desire to play for Bangladesh.
“Farhan officially informed us that he wants to represent Bangladesh. We then began the formal process of securing his eligibility. His birth registration was completed two weeks ago, making him officially a Bangladeshi citizen. His biometric process for a passport will be completed soon. We hope to welcome another England-born Bangladeshi to the national team after Hamza Choudhury,” Karim said.
Hamza’s decision to represent Bangladesh after winning the FA Cup with Leicester City and captaining the Premier League club inspired many overseas players to consider wearing the red and green jersey. Canadian-based midfielder Shamit Shome has already joined the national team, and the addition of a highly rated talent like Farhan Ali Wahid would further strengthen Bangladesh’s ambitions for the future.
