Mobile financial service provider Nagad handed over BDT 18.56 crore to the Directorate of Posts as its revenue share for the 2025–26 fiscal year on Wednesday.

The disbursement represents a 34 percent year-on-year surge, adding over Tk 5 crore compared to the previous year’s earnings.

The official cheque was handed over at a ceremony at Daak Bhaban in Agargaon by Bangladesh Bank-appointed Administrator for Nagad, Md. Motasem Billah, to Minister for Posts, Telecommunications and Information Technology Fakir Mahbub Anam, MP.

Posts and Telecommunications Secretary Bilquis Jahan Rimi and Director General of the Directorate of Posts Kazi Asadul Islam were also in attendance.

Addressing the audience, Minister Fakir Mahbub Anam highlighted that Nagad plays a critical state-backed role in maintaining healthy market competition and preventing monopolies in Bangladesh’s digital financial landscape.

He advised against paying attention to market rumors, emphasizing that digital transactions remain indispensable for students, general citizens, and remote populations.

The record revenue share comes on the back of rapid operational expansion during FY 2025–26, during which Nagad processed BDT 4,27,000 crore in total transactions—a 25.5 percent increase from BDT 3,40,000 crore in the preceding fiscal year.

Driven by a daily transaction average exceeding BDT 1,500 crore, Nagad’s active customer base expanded past 3 crore users by June, including over 2.25 crore mobile app users.

Director General Kazi Asadul Islam noted that the partnership disproves the narrative that state-owned or state-linked entities cannot turn a profit. Since its launch in March 2019, Nagad has contributed nearly BDT 1,000 crore to government coffers, consisting of BDT 946 crore in taxes and BDT 47 crore in cumulative postal revenue shares.

Over the first 11 months of FY26 alone, the operator contributed BDT 313 crore in VAT and taxes. The revenue-sharing model operates at zero financial risk to the postal department, as Nagad Limited bears all capital and operational expenses, including technology infrastructure.

After allowable operational costs are deducted from total revenue, the Directorate of Posts receives 51 percent of net proceeds, while Nagad retains the remaining 49 percent, providing a steady stream of pure profit to the state.
