SpaceX has completed its $60 billion acquisition of Anysphere, the technology company behind AI-powered coding platform Cursor, bringing the popular coding tool fully under the ownership of Elon Musk’s space company.
The deal follows a partnership between Cursor and SpaceX that began in April to accelerate AI model training. SpaceX later announced plans to acquire Anysphere in a $60 billion all-stock transaction.
The acquisition gives Cursor access to SpaceX’s large-scale computing infrastructure, including its Colossus supercomputer network, which is equipped with hundreds of thousands of advanced Nvidia GPUs. The additional computing power is expected to help the company train and develop AI models more efficiently and at lower cost.
The two companies have already worked together on AI development. In July, SpaceXAI and Cursor jointly launched Grok 4.5, an AI model designed not only for software development but also for data science, finance, legal work and other complex computer-based tasks.
According to Cursor, Grok 4.5 was trained jointly with SpaceXAI and uses large-scale developer and engineering data to improve its ability to handle long-running tasks, write and modify code, use tools and solve complex problems.
Grok 4.5 is priced at $2 per million input tokens and $6 per million output tokens, making it relatively inexpensive compared with several competing advanced AI models. It is available through Cursor, SpaceXAI’s developer platform and other services.
The companies have continued to expand their AI partnership, with SpaceXAI launching newer AI products aimed at coding and broader workplace tasks. Their collaboration reflects SpaceX’s growing focus on artificial intelligence and enterprise software, alongside its traditional space business.
For Cursor, the acquisition could provide access to significantly greater computing resources and infrastructure, potentially allowing it to develop more powerful AI coding and automation tools at a lower cost.
The deal also marks a significant step in Musk’s effort to bring AI development more closely together with SpaceX’s technology and computing capabilities, positioning SpaceXAI as a growing competitor in the rapidly expanding AI market.
