Technology giant Apple has officially entered the foldable smartphone market with the launch of its first foldable handset, the iPhone Duo, priced at a starting $1,999.

Designed in a passport-like form factor, the premium device marks Apple’s entry into a segment long dominated by rivals such as Samsung and Huawei. The company hopes the new flagship will help reshape the foldable smartphone market and make the technology more appealing to mainstream consumers.

Apple’s new Chief Executive Officer John Ternus unveiled the handset at a special event in Cupertino, California.

The iPhone Duo resembles a passport when folded and opens into a large 7.6-inch display. It also features a separate outer screen that allows users to operate the phone without unfolding it.

The device is powered by Apple’s A20 Pro processor and the company’s in-house C2 modem chip. Apple said the technologies are designed to deliver fast processing and high-speed connectivity while maintaining strong protection for users’ data.

The handset’s upgraded battery technology provides up to 24 hours of continuous use under normal conditions, according to the company.

The iPhone Duo will be available in global markets from October 23.

Alongside the foldable iPhone, Apple unveiled the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max, two new models retaining the company’s conventional smartphone design.

The iPhone 18 Pro starts at $1,199, while the Pro Max carries a starting price of $1,299.
