Robi Axiata PLC has completed the final phase of its nationwide 4G network modernization programme, upgrading more than 3,500 sites across Chattogram, Cumilla and Noakhali in 180 days.

The operator announced the completion at an event titled “Celebration of Robi’s 4G Network Modernization in Chattogram” held at the Radisson Blu Chattogram Bay View on Sunday, October 4.

Robi said the modernization was completed with virtually no disruption to customers and has improved the average 4G customer experience by up to 20 percent across the three regions.

Indoor 4G coverage has also been expanded to an additional 10 percent of the population, while the upgraded infrastructure uses advanced MIMO (Multiple Input Multiple Output) technology to improve signal quality, coverage and network capacity.

The technology uses multiple antennas to transmit and receive signals simultaneously, enabling more reliable connectivity and higher capacity.

According to Robi, the upgraded network has also reduced energy consumption by up to 12 percent, supporting the operator’s efforts to lower carbon emissions and advance its sustainability goals.

Speaking at the event, Chattogram-9 MP Mohammad Abu Sufian said Chattogram is the country’s commercial gateway and that modern digital infrastructure would support trade, industrialisation and smart city management.

BTRC Chairman Major General (retd.) Md. Emdad Ul Bari described the completion of the large-scale modernization programme within a short period as a significant engineering achievement.

Chattogram Development Authority Chairman Engineer Belayet Hossain said reliable telecommunications infrastructure was essential for the growth of the digital economy and would help accelerate economic activity and digital transformation in the region.

Robi Managing Director and CEO Ziad Shatara said the completion of the Chattogram phase marked the conclusion of the company’s nationwide network transformation programme.

He said the initiative was not only a technological milestone but also an important step toward delivering a better digital experience to customers across Bangladesh.

The Chattogram upgrade followed Robi’s modernization of more than 4,800 sites across Greater Dhaka.

Robi said the Greater Dhaka project, which it described as the largest and fastest network transformation initiative in its history, improved customer experience by up to 125 percent across different clusters, reduced call drops by 20 percent and increased indoor network performance by up to three times for nearly half of its customers.

With the completion of the latest phase, Robi said its nationwide network modernization programme has further strengthened the foundation for expanding digital services and future-ready mobile connectivity, including the eventual deployment of 5G services.
