America no longer wants us: Zoho founder

Zoho founder Sridhar Vembu has urged Indian technology professionals working in the United States to return to India and help build the country’s technology sector, saying that a large section of American society no longer welcomes them.

In a post on social media platform X on Friday, Vembu said Indian professionals had made significant contributions to America’s technological advancement but were now facing uncertainty over their future in the country.

“Indians who are on a visa in the US face the painful prospect of uprooting the life you have built with hard work,” he wrote.

Vembu called on Indian professionals to view the situation as an opportunity to contribute to their home country’s development, adding, “Come back, let’s build India.”

His remarks came after the US government suspended eight technology companies from the Permanent Labour Certification (PERM) programme, a key step in the employment-based Green Card process.

The affected companies include Microsoft, Adobe, Cognizant, Infosys, Tata Consultancy Services (TCS), Wipro, HCL Technologies and Capgemini.

The suspension halts the processing of new and pending PERM applications involving the companies, creating uncertainty for foreign employees seeking permanent residency in the United States. However, the move does not automatically cancel existing visas.

Vembu has repeatedly encouraged Indian professionals living abroad to return home, arguing that their international experience and expertise could help strengthen India’s technology industry and drive innovation.
