The government has formed a five-member cabinet committee to review and finalise the draft of the Cyber Security (Amendment) Act, 2026, marking another step toward updating the country’s cyber security legal framework.
Posts, Telecommunications and Information Technology Minister Fakir Mahbub Anam has been made convener of the committee, which has been tasked with examining the proposed amendments in detail and recommending any necessary changes before the draft law is placed for final approval.
According to an official notification issued by the Cabinet Division, the committee will assess the draft legislation to ensure that its provisions are consistent with the government’s policy objectives and adequately address emerging cyber security challenges.
The committee comprises Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed, Foreign Minister Dr Khalilur Rahman, Information and Broadcasting Minister Zahir Uddin Swapan, and Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Md Asaduzzaman, alongside the convener.
The formation of the high-level committee reflects the government’s move to complete the legislative process through inter-ministerial consultation before the proposed amendments are sent for final consideration.
The Cyber Security (Amendment) Act, 2026 is expected to revise provisions of the existing cyber security law in response to evolving technological developments, digital governance needs, and the growing importance of safeguarding cyberspace while ensuring effective legal oversight.
