The Bangladesh Road Transport Authority (BRTA) has made it mandatory for motorcycles to display manual registration number plates at the front, setting November 15 as the deadline for compliance.
Motorcycle owners have been instructed to install and display the plates by the deadline. Failure to comply may result in legal action, according to a public notice issued by the BRTA.
The notice said the Road Transport Act, 2018, and the Road Transport Rules, 2022, require motorcycles to display registration numbers on approved, high-quality retro-reflective metal plates with radio-frequency identification (RFID) at the rear. The government has now decided to require registration numbers to be displayed at the front as well.
Initially, owners must arrange to install the manual front plates themselves, following the specifications set by the BRTA.
Under the guidelines, front number plates for scooters must be 200 millimetres long and 100 millimetres wide. For other motorcycles, the plates must measure 285 millimetres in length and 50 millimetres in width.
The letters and numerals on both types of plates must be at least 20 millimetres high.
