Air India will resume daily flights on the Dhaka-Delhi route from July 29, citing the resumption of regular Indian visa services for Bangladeshis and a decline in global jet fuel prices.
The Indian flag carrier announced that, under its revised schedule, it will operate daily round-trip flights between Dhaka and Delhi, restoring services that had been reduced to four flights a week since mid-May.
According to the new schedule, Air India flights will depart Delhi for Dhaka at 11:10 am every day, while the return flight from Dhaka will leave at 3:10 pm.
On May 13, Air India announced a temporary reduction in services on several international routes, including Dhaka-Delhi, citing airspace restrictions linked to the conflict in West Asia and record-high jet fuel prices.
At the time, the airline said it had decided to “rationalise” its flight schedule for the June-August period, reducing Dhaka-Delhi services from seven flights a week to four. It also suspended its Mumbai-Dhaka route until August.
According to information on the airline’s website, Air India operated Dhaka-Delhi flights on Sundays, Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays during June and July.
Regular Indian visa services in Bangladesh were suspended following the July-August 2024 student-led mass uprising, leading to a decline in cross-border travel. However, Air India largely maintained operations on the Dhaka-Delhi and Dhaka-Mumbai routes until the conflict in West Asia forced service adjustments.
Following the formation of the BNP-led government in February this year, Bangladesh and India have been working to normalise bilateral relations. India resumed issuing all categories of visas to Bangladeshi nationals on June 28.
During the suspension of regular visa services, India continued issuing around 1,500 visas under medical and entry categories. With the restoration of tourist and other visa categories, passenger traffic between the two countries has begun to recover.
While Air India has confirmed the restoration of daily Dhaka-Delhi flights, it has yet to announce when services on the Dhaka-Mumbai route will resume.
