The University of Dhaka has decided to extend the gate-closing time for its women’s residential halls by one hour. Under the new decision, the gates will now close at 11pm instead of 10pm.
The decision was taken at a meeting of the university’s Syndicate, its highest policymaking body, on Monday. The meeting was chaired by Vice-Chancellor Professor A.B.M. Obaidul Islam.
At the meeting, the university administration also temporarily suspended four teachers—three over allegations of opposing the July mass uprising and one for allegedly becoming a teacher without meeting the educational qualifications specified in the recruitment notice.
University Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Administration) Professor Mohammad Almozadded Alfechani confirmed the information.
The three teachers suspended over allegations of opposing the July mass uprising are Professor M Wahiduzzaman Chan and Professor Muhammad Mahbubur Rahman of the Institute of Education and Research, and Professor Mashiur Rahman of the Department of Sociology.
The university administration took the decision based on recommendations from an investigation committee formed by the university. Tribunals have also been constituted against the three teachers.
