United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres has strongly condemned a Houthi attack on King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh, the capital of Saudi Arabia, describing strikes targeting civilians and civilian infrastructure as a clear violation of international law.
In a post on X, Guterres said he was deeply shocked and outraged by Saturday’s deadly attack, which killed at least 12 people and injured hundreds of civilians, AFP reported.
He stressed that any attack on civilians and civilian facilities constitutes a grave violation of international law and called for an immediate end to such attacks.
Meanwhile, UN Special Envoy for Yemen Hans Grundberg warned that repeated deadly attacks targeting Saudi Arabia’s civilian airports represented a dangerous military escalation.
In a statement, Grundberg said the attack on Riyadh’s international airport posed a serious threat to regional security across the Middle East. He warned that such violence would prolong the cycle of conflict and further complicate efforts to achieve lasting peace in Yemen.
