Four people, including a 19-year-old woman, were injured when gunmen opened fire from a car outside a boxing event near Brisbane, Australia. The woman was shot in the head and neck, and her condition remains critical despite undergoing surgery. Police have yet to arrest anyone in connection with the shooting.

According to a report by the Australian Associated Press (AAP) on Sunday (October 25), the incident occurred at around 8:18pm on Saturday outside a venue operated by Fitzys in Loganholme, south of Brisbane. People attending a boxing competition had gathered in a designated passenger pick-up and drop-off area when a Mitsubishi vehicle pulled up.

Queensland Police Detective Inspector Ian Galpin said two men fired several shots through the vehicle’s front window. Police believe the men were wearing balaclavas and gloves.

The 19-year-old woman is a resident of Jimboomba. The other victims include a 38-year-old man from Browns Plains, who was shot in the abdomen and hand; a 37-year-old man from Salisbury, who was shot in the abdomen; and a 27-year-old man from Cornubia, who was also shot in the abdomen.

Police said the conditions of the three other victims were serious but stable.

According to police, the Mitsubishi was set on fire after the shooting. Investigators believe the vehicle was burned on Maloney Road in Waterford West, where the area has been declared a crime scene. The occupants of the Mitsubishi are believed to have left in another vehicle.

Galpin said some of the vehicle’s occupants may have been injured in the shooting or suffered burns in the fire. However, he said it was too early to determine whether organised crime was linked to the incident.

He described the shooting as a shocking incident in a public place where adults and children had gathered to enjoy a sporting event. Such violence, he said, was completely unacceptable.
