Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelenskiy has announced plans to replace Prime Minister Yulia Svyrydenko as part of a broader government reshuffle aimed at implementing a revised political strategy.
In a statement, Zelenskiy thanked Svyrydenko for her “steady and effective work” and said he had offered her a new role involving relations with a key international partner, though he did not specify the position.
Svyrydenko, who assumed office in July 2025, may be appointed as Ukraine’s ambassador to the United States, according to opposition lawmaker Yaroslav Zhelezniak. If confirmed, her departure would trigger the resignation of the entire cabinet under Ukrainian law, paving the way for a full government overhaul.
Zelenskiy also indicated that changes would extend beyond the cabinet, with leadership shifts expected in law enforcement agencies.
Several figures are being considered as potential successors, including former prime minister and current energy minister Denys Shmyhal, Defence Minister Mykhailo Fedorov, and Naftogaz chief Serhiy Koretskyi.
Parliamentary approval will be required for the prime minister’s replacement, making the coming days crucial for Ukraine’s political transition amid ongoing challenges posed by the war.
