Iran has claimed that it shot down several more US drones, including an MQ-9, amid escalating military tensions between Tehran and Washington.
The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) said an intelligence drone was brought down over southern Iran, while an MQ-9 drone was destroyed in the skies over Ahvaz in the southwestern province of Khuzestan.
Citing Iran’s state-run IRNA news agency, Al Jazeera reported that the IRGC said the drone downed in southern Iran had been conducting surveillance and monitoring military activities in the area.
The IRGC’s air force also claimed it had brought down a US MQ-9 drone over Ahvaz.
Iranian forces further claimed to have intercepted a US cruise missile in western Iran. The United States had not immediately commented on the claims.
The reports came amid heightened military tensions between Iran and the US.
Reciprocal attacks in recent days have further intensified security concerns across the Middle East.
