The Cockroach Janta Party (CJP), which has emerged at the forefront of India’s nationwide anti-exam leak movement, has called for peaceful protests across the country on Friday, July 24, under the slogan “Every District. One Day. One Demand.”
In a statement issued on Thursday, the group urged students, youth organizations and civil society members to hold demonstrations in every district in solidarity with protesters who it says were subjected to police brutality during the ongoing agitation over alleged examination paper leaks.
The CJP stressed that all protests should remain peaceful.
The protest call came despite Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s announcement that the government would establish fast-track courts to prosecute those responsible for exam paper leaks.
The CJP rejected the move as insufficient, reiterating its demand for the resignation of Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan and broader reforms to India’s examination system.
The government has meanwhile said it remains open to dialogue and has sent multiple proposals to CJP representatives for talks in an effort to defuse the crisis.
