IRGC claims Iran attack killed 200 US troops

Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) has claimed that more than 200 US troops were killed in its recent retaliatory military operation targeting American bases in the Middle East amid escalating tensions over the Strait of Hormuz. However, the claim has not been independently verified, and the United States has not officially acknowledged the reported casualties or damage.

In an interview with Iran’s Tasnim News Agency published on Saturday, IRGC spokesperson Brigadier General Hossein Mohebi said Iran carried out a 15-day retaliatory campaign, codenamed Operation Nasr-2, in response to what he described as US aggression.

According to Mohebi, the operation targeted US military bases used to launch attacks against Iran. He claimed that at least eight American military installations were struck, including one base where 20 aircraft hangars were allegedly destroyed.

The IRGC further claimed that the attacks destroyed 11 fighter jets and helicopters, four heavy military helicopters, an F-15 fighter jet, a P-8 Poseidon maritime patrol aircraft, a C-17 Globemaster military transport aircraft, 17 surveillance and operational drones, and eight aerial refuelling tankers.

Mohebi also alleged that the strikes damaged seven command and control centres, six Patriot radar units, eight early warning radar systems, seven air defence missile radars, five long-range radar installations, satellite communication systems and several other military facilities.

According to the IRGC, the operation also inflicted significant damage on US military infrastructure, including drone and aircraft hangars, weapons depots, fuel storage facilities, missile bunkers, aircraft maintenance centres, signal intelligence facilities, an artificial intelligence processing centre and an Amazon data node.

Rejecting casualty figures reported by US authorities and media as “completely false,” Mohebi claimed that more than 200 US military personnel were killed during Operation Nasr-2, with the number of wounded being even higher.

He urged Washington to disclose the actual extent of the damage and casualties and called for international media to be granted access to the targeted US military bases to independently assess the situation.

The claims come as tensions between Tehran and Washington have sharply escalated over control and navigation through the Strait of Hormuz following the collapse of an interim ceasefire agreement. Both countries have exchanged military strikes and accusations in recent weeks, raising fears of a broader regional conflict.

The IRGC’s claims have not been independently verified. The US government has not issued any official confirmation regarding the alleged casualties or the reported destruction of military assets.
