Two workers electrocuted in Trishal

Two construction workers were killed after being electrocuted at an under-construction building in Trishal upazila of Mymensingh on Thursday afternoon.

The incident occurred in the Daipara area of Ward No. 5 under Trishal municipality. The deceased were identified as Jisan, 18, son of Ratan from Tarail area in Ishwarganj, and Sirajul Islam, 22, son of the late Ibrahim from Bhatipara in Birampur.

According to contractor Md Hasan, the workers had completed rod work on the rooftop and were instructed to bring the iron bars down using the staircase.

However, one worker attempted to lower a long iron rod from the side of the building instead. The rod came into contact with a high-voltage power line running nearby, instantly electrocuting two workers on the roof. They fell from the building and sustained critical injuries.

Co-workers rushed them to Trishal Upazila Health Complex, where on-duty doctor Dr Imtiaz Mahmud declared both dead upon arrival. He said initial observations suggest the victims were electrocuted and then fell from a height, suffering severe injuries and excessive bleeding.

Building owner Al Amin said the construction work had been fully handed over to the contractor and neither he nor his family members were present at the site during the incident. He added that workers had been instructed to use the staircase to move materials.

Trishal Police Station Officer-in-Charge Mansur Ahmed said the bodies will be sent to Mymensingh Medical College Hospital morgue for autopsy, and legal proceedings are underway.
