Dhaka: Prime Minister Tareque Rahman began his official schedule at the Bangladesh Secretariat on Thursday by handing appointment letters to three persons with disabilities, reaffirming the government’s commitment to promoting inclusive employment.
The appointment letters were presented in the morning as the Prime Minister entered his office at the Cabinet Division in the Bangladesh Secretariat.
The initiative aims to empower persons with disabilities through employment, helping them become self-reliant and fully integrated into mainstream society.
The three newly appointed employees are Ayesha Akter from Saghata Upazila in Gaibandha, Neela Khatun from Kamarkhanda Upazila in Sirajganj, and Md. Hasmat Ali from Narail Sadar Upazila.
Receiving their appointment letters directly from the Prime Minister, the recipients expressed their joy, describing the occasion as the beginning of both a new career and a new chapter in their lives.
Both Ayesha Akter and Neela Khatun have physical disabilities. Born without both hands, Neela completed her master’s degree by writing with her feet. She has been appointed as a teacher at the National Foundation for the Development of the Disabled in Mirpur, Dhaka.
Ayesha Akter also completed her master’s degree by writing with her feet. As she does not have hands, she accepted her appointment letter with her mouth. She has been appointed as a Class Supervisor at BIAM Laboratory School and College in Gaibandha.
Meanwhile, visually impaired Md. Hasmat Ali has been appointed as a Union Social Worker under the Department of Social Services.
Among those present at the ceremony were Social Welfare and Women and Children Affairs Minister Professor Dr. A.Z.M. Zahid Hossain, State Minister for Women and Children Affairs Farzana Sharmin Putul, Social Welfare Secretary Dr. Mohammad Abu Yousuf, Managing Director of the Bangladesh Foundation for the Development of the Disabled Md. Tarikul Alam, and Director General of the Department of Social Services Shah Mohammad Mahbub.
Abdus Sattar Dulal, founder of the Bangladesh Disability Welfare Association, thanked the Prime Minister for providing employment opportunities to the three individuals. He met the Prime Minister immediately after the appointment letter ceremony to express his appreciation.
