Dhaka: The air quality in the capital Dhaka remains at a moderate or tolerable level, continuing the recent improvement in air pollution conditions.
According to the air quality update from 8:00 am to 9:00 am on Sunday (August 30), Dhaka ranked 42nd among major cities worldwide in terms of air quality.
During the period, Dhaka recorded an Air Quality Index (AQI) score of 58, indicating a moderate or tolerable level of air quality. The figure was reported based on live data from IQAir, an international air quality monitoring organization.
Although Dhaka’s air quality has reached unhealthy or hazardous levels at various times in the past, the current situation offers some relief to city residents.
Environmental researchers and experts say that sustainable planning and the strict implementation of long-term pollution-control measures are essential to maintaining the improvement in air quality.
Air pollution tends to become severe during certain seasons, while the air quality sometimes improves to tolerable levels during the monsoon or under favorable weather conditions. However, experts noted that such relief may be temporary, making continued public awareness and government monitoring equally important.
Urban planners say that in addition to controlling unplanned construction activities and vehicle emissions, simple measures such as regularly sprinkling water to suppress dust should also be properly implemented. These steps could help keep Dhaka’s air quality at a satisfactory level.
City residents also hope that the current tolerable air quality will not be limited to just one day, but will continue to improve gradually in the days ahead.
