Police have conducted dope tests on the two accused in the Rangpur quadruple murder case inside jail, fearing a possible mob attack if they were taken outside.
The urine samples of Siddhartha Das and Mugdha Das were collected at Rangpur Central Jail on Sunday as part of the investigation.
Police said the tests were ordered to verify the accused’s claims that they had consumed yaba before the killings.
The decision to collect the samples inside the jail was taken for security reasons, as the case has generated widespread public anger and concern over a possible mob attack.
The two accused are alleged to have strangled retired Rangpur Zilla School teacher Ganapati Chakraborty, his wife Pritilata Chakraborty, daughter Agami Chakraborty and 12-year-old son Ayush at their home in the city’s Machhuapara area.
Police said both suspects have already given confessional statements before a magistrate.
Investigators are now seeking to verify their statements and other evidence through forensic and dope tests.
