The father and elder brother of Siddhartha Das, one of the suspects arrested in the Rangpur quadruple murder case, have been taken into custody by the Detective Branch (DB) of police for questioning.

The two—Siddhartha’s father Binoy Chandra Das and elder brother Partha Das—were taken from their home in Machuapara, Rangpur, on Saturday afternoon, August 29.

Police said they had repeatedly asked the two to appear at the DB office for questioning, but they had declined.

The case concerns the deaths of retired teacher Ganapati Chakraborty, his wife Pritilata, their daughter Agami and son Priyam.

Their bodies were recovered from their locked home in Machuapara on August 22.

Siddhartha Das and Mugdha Das were subsequently arrested in connection with the killings and have reportedly given confessional statements before a magistrate under Section 164 of the Code of Criminal Procedure.

Rangpur Metropolitan Police Deputy Commissioner (DB) Sanatan Chakraborty said Binoy and Partha were brought in as part of the investigation.

He said they would be questioned before police decide on the next course of action.

Police have not said that Siddhartha’s father or brother are suspects in the murders. Their questioning is part of the ongoing investigation.
