A total of 48 examinees were expelled on the third day of the Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC) and equivalent examinations for resorting to unfair means.
Of them, 43 were expelled during the HSC English First Paper examination under the country’s nine general education boards.
On Monday, exams were held for HSC English First Paper, Alim Bangla First Paper, and subjects including Computer Office Application-II, Career Guidance, and Self-Employment under HSC Vocational, BMT, and Diploma in Commerce streams.
According to the Inter-Education Board Coordination Committee, a total of 33,129 examinees were absent across all streams on the day.
In the English First Paper exam alone, held at 1,620 centres under nine general boards, 10 students were expelled from the Dhaka Board, three from Rajshahi, eight from Cumilla, three from Jashore, one from Sylhet, four from Barishal, seven from Dinajpur, and seven from Mymensingh boards.
Out of 997,021 registered candidates for the English exam, 971,987 appeared, while 25,034 remained absent.
Under the Madrasa Education Board, two candidates were expelled during the Alim Bangla First Paper examination. Of the 83,333 registered candidates across 460 centres, 78,181 took part, leaving 5,152 absent.
Meanwhile, under the Technical Education Board, three candidates were expelled on the third day of vocational and commerce exams.
A total of 2,943 candidates were absent in these streams.
The exams were conducted at 611 centres, where 83,833 candidates were expected to sit, but 80,833 eventually appeared.
Authorities said strict measures are being enforced to ensure a fair examination environment across all centres.
