Bangladesh received more than $35.5 billion in remittances in the outgoing 2025–26 fiscal year, contributing positively to the country’s economy, said State Minister for Expatriates’ Welfare and Overseas Employment Nurul Haque Nur.

He disclosed the figure on behalf of Expatriates’ Welfare and Overseas Employment Minister Ariful Haque Chowdhury in reply to a written question from Nilofar Chowdhury Moni, a lawmaker from reserved seat-10, during Thursday’s session of Parliament.

The state minister said expatriate Bangladeshis sent home $35,589.39 million in remittances during the 2025–26 fiscal year, marking a 17.35 per cent increase from the previous fiscal year.

Saudi Arabia emerged as the largest single source of remittances, with Bangladeshi expatriates sending home $5,848.87 million from the country.

He said remittance inflows from the United Arab Emirates, the United Kingdom and Malaysia also increased significantly.

The United States, which ranked first among remittance sources in the previous fiscal year, slipped to fifth place this year, sending $3,033.15 million to Bangladesh.

Among other major sources, Oman, Italy, Kuwait and Qatar also sent substantial amounts of remittances, he said.

The significant increase in remittances sent by Bangladeshi expatriates from various countries in the Middle East and Europe has provided some relief to the national economy, the state minister added.
