Heavy rainfall has brought India’s capital, Delhi, to a standstill. Water has accumulated heavily at the entrance of Indira Gandhi International Airport, forcing passengers to roll up their trousers and push their luggage through the water as they try to enter the terminal.
Flight operations have also been severely affected by the downpour. Due to waterlogging on the runway and poor visibility, 11 flights arriving in Delhi were diverted to other cities. Five flights landed in Jaipur, four in Lucknow, and the remaining two were diverted to Ahmedabad and Chandigarh.
One stranded passenger expressed frustration, saying they had never seen so much water at an airport in their life. The passenger said they had been waiting for nearly half an hour and would head toward the gate once the water level dropped.
Several low-lying roads and areas beneath flyovers across Delhi have also been flooded, bringing traffic to a standstill. The weather department has issued an emergency warning, advising people to check road conditions before going out and to stay away from electricity poles during storms.
The weather office has forecast light to heavy rain and strong winds across the city throughout the day. Source NDTV.
