Dhaka’s air quality turned ‘unhealthy’ on Monday morning, with the capital ranking sixth among the world’s most polluted cities, according to the Air Quality Index (AQI).
The city’s air quality deteriorated from Sunday’s ‘unhealthy for sensitive groups’ level, raising concerns over the health risks posed by air pollution.
An AQI reading between 151 and 200 is classified as ‘unhealthy’, meaning people may experience adverse health effects, while sensitive groups face greater risks.
Dhaka has frequently featured among the world’s most polluted cities in recent months, with air quality fluctuating significantly depending on weather conditions and pollution levels.
Experts generally advise residents to limit prolonged outdoor activities when air quality reaches unhealthy levels, particularly children, older people and those with respiratory or heart conditions.
