Two newly built Temporary Operational Bases (TOBs) have been inaugurated in Bandarban’s Naikhongchhari to strengthen surveillance and security along the Bangladesh-Myanmar border.
The bases, located at Arachchhatala Tila and Haturani Tila in Ghumdhum Union, were inaugurated on Wednesday morning by Brigadier General Kazi Shamsher Uddin, Commander of the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) Cox’s Bazar Region, according to a press release issued by 34 BGB.
During the visit, the regional commander inspected the facilities and briefed BGB personnel deployed at the bases.
He instructed them to remain vigilant and perform their duties with professionalism and competence.
The new bases are expected to enhance BGB patrols and surveillance along the border and strengthen efforts to prevent drug trafficking, smuggling and illegal infiltration.
They will also improve security for people living in remote border areas and enable BGB personnel to respond more quickly to incidents in difficult and high-risk locations.
Colonel Md Anwar-ul-Alam, Sector Commander of the BGB Ramu Sector, and Lieutenant Colonel SM Khairul Alam, Commander of Cox’s Bazar Battalion (34 BGB), were among those present at the inauguration.
