DMP arrests 499 in 24-hr Dhaka anti-crime drive

DHAKA: Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) arrested 499 people in its regular anti-crime drives across the capital over the past 24 hours. Twenty-six cases were filed during the period.

DMP Deputy Commissioner (Media) Md Akter Hossain disclosed the information on Monday morning (September 28).

He said the arrests were made during raids in different police station areas of the capital, during which various pieces of evidence and narcotics were also recovered. Legal proceedings against the arrestees are underway.

According to Akter Hossain, the arrests were made by different DMP units as follows: Ramna Division 27, Lalbagh Division 36, Wari Division 79, Motijheel Division 83, Tejgaon Division 101, Mirpur Division 96, Gulshan Division 36, Uttara Division 37, Detective Branch 3 and Counter Terrorism and Transnational Crime (CTTC) Division 1.

During the drives, police recovered 125 yaba tablets, 104 grams of heroin, a motorcycle, Tk47,000 in cash allegedly from drug sales, a digital weighing scale, 11 mobile phones, four SIM cards, three sharp knives, five spent bullet casings and counterfeit Bangladeshi currency worth Tk35 lakh.
