DHAKA: A total of 439 people were arrested in the capital over the past 24 hours during regular operations conducted by the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP). During the same period, 31 cases were filed.
DMP Deputy Commissioner (Media and Public Relations) Md Akter Hossain disclosed the information on Thursday (October 1).
According to Akter Hossain, 28 people were arrested by the Ramna division, 57 by Lalbagh, 37 by Wari, 55 by Motijheel, 79 by Tejgaon, 96 by Mirpur, 28 by Gulshan, 38 by Uttara, 20 by the Detective Branch (DB), and one by the Counter Terrorism and Transnational Crime (CTTC) unit.
During the operations, police seized 152.15 kg of cannabis, 7,028 yaba tablets and 175 grams of heroin. They also recovered 13 mobile phones, a motorcycle, a knife, a ramda, a machete, two Swiss-gear knives, a microbus and a private car.
The DMP official said the arrests were made during operations conducted in different police station areas across the capital, during which various evidence and narcotics were also recovered.
Further legal proceedings against the arrestees are underway, he added.
