The government on Monday appointed Ahsan Habib, a member of the National Board of Revenue (NBR), as the acting chairman of the country’s apex revenue authority.
The Ministry of Public Administration issued a gazette notification confirming his appointment.
Habib will also serve as the acting secretary of the Internal Resources Division (IRD), succeeding Md Abdur Rahman Khan, whose tenure ended on Monday.
A member of the 15th BCS (Taxation) cadre, Habib previously served as director general of the NBR’s Central Intelligence Cell (CIC).
Following the July 2024 mass uprising, he gained prominence for leading investigations into alleged tax evasion and money laundering involving major business conglomerates, including the S Alam Group, as well as senior bureaucrats and influential political figures linked to the previous regime.
