The Appellate Division on Thursday ordered the results of the 2023 government primary school assistant teacher recruitment for Dhaka and Chattogram divisions to be republished on the basis of merit, replacing the previous quota-based evaluation.
The five-member bench led by Chief Justice Zubayer Rahman Chowdhury directed authorities to reassess the results of 46,199 candidates in line with the Supreme Court’s quota reform verdict, under which 93% of posts are to be filled on merit, instead of the earlier 84% quota system.
The court also ordered the government to appoint the 151 writ petitioners, subject to their eligibility and in accordance with the law, within 60 days.
At the same time, the court upheld the appointments of 6,531 candidates who have already been recruited, avoiding disruption to the recruitment process.
Attorney General Md Ruhul Quddus Kajal said the 151 petitioners would not receive automatic appointments, stressing that only those who qualify under the merit-based assessment would be eligible for recruitment.
