Candidates who were finally recommended for appointment as government primary school assistant teachers have begun a sit-in in Dhaka’s Shahbag area, demanding their appointment letters.
The candidates took to the road in front of Shahbag Police Station after marching there shortly after 11am on Sunday (September 27).
They had gathered earlier in the morning in front of the Dhaka University Central Library.
The protesters said they were holding the peaceful programme to demand the immediate issuance of appointment letters to candidates who were finally recommended but have yet to receive them.
The issuance of appointment letters for the 2025 government primary school assistant teacher recruitment began on September 24.
However, hundreds of candidates in different districts have not received their letters, creating uncertainty and concern among them.
The platform “Final Recommended Primary Assistant Teachers-2025” said the latest information available during the verification process showed that appointment letters had not been issued to more than 1,500 of the 14,384 candidates finally recommended for appointment.
The “Central Panel Primary 2025” platform has also claimed that more than 1,500 finally recommended candidates were excluded during the verification process. It has placed five demands, including the public disclosure of clear explanations for their exclusion.
The platform made the demands in a press statement issued on Friday (September 25).
The written examination for the recruitment of government primary school assistant teachers was held simultaneously in 61 districts on January 9, excluding the three hill districts. A total of 69,265 candidates who passed the written test were selected for viva voce examinations.
The final results of the 2025 assistant teacher recruitment were published on February 8, with 14,384 candidates selected for appointment. Lists of successful candidates were also published by district.
